Been keeping reasonably well. Been little stressed because of some work related issues (what else is new ?) But otherwise I'm good. Getting excited because I've recently ordered a new personal computer, which is arriving next week, so looking forward to that !
On the creative front, I've been slowly progressing with some of my short story projects and world building. And there's a culture/custom related matter for one of my mystical equines species, the Ionaequines that I've been pondering about for sometime, and I've got quite a lot of the details worked out, but there's an important part of it for which inspiration has been eluding me - If anyone has any suggestions or opinions, I'd welcome them !
This custom of my race centres around the fact that they have fertility problems. Basically they got cursed a long time ago. It relates to power - they have electrokinesis as an innate ability - which is partly biological in that they have electric organs and electrocytes, but partly amplified by the innate power given to them by their creator
As is explained in both my Luminaron's Blessing short story and my Lay of Creation, the Ionaequines were cursed in the age of creation, which means that those who develop their power fully are left barren, meaning that each Ionaequine is forced to chose between fertility and being able to wield their powers to the full. However, also as a result of the events of creation, some of the non mystical equines living on the plains of Equinara carry the latent potential to be Ionaequines, giving those Ionaequines that are barren the chance to adopt one of these foals. Even so, the barrenness curse obviously puts a severe strain on the population.
Because of this, Ionaequine parents have to prove themselves worthy of the right to have a foal and thus they have to go throught the Trials of Parenthood as a result, which are held in the Temple of Trials. I've got a lot of the cultural details worked out, but I haven't yet managed to really nail down what's involved in the actual trials, so if anyones's got any ideas - I'd love to hear them !
